Sonam is a filmmaker specializing in documentary films and travel documentaries. He previously spent 11 years working as a TV producer for Bhutan Broadcasting Service, the national television channel of Bhutan. In 2012, Sonam won the UNICEF Prix Jeunesse Award, hosted in Munich, Germany, for his children's documentary "Tashi and Sakteng". He was producer of one of the most popular television shows in Bhutan, a travel series called Nazhoen Express, which educates the youth of Bhutan about Bhutan's people, history, culture and traditions in the most remote districts and villages countrywide.
